Japan's world-renowned natural leather  For continued growth together as we move into a new era  We are inviting pattern designs that use world-renowned  Japanese natural leather and manufacturing technologies for leather goods.

Entry Categories Shoes (Men's/Women's) / Handbags, Bags (Men's/Women's) / Belts / Gloves / Leatherwear
Subjects Pattern design drawings using natural leather in the five categories or seven sections above
*The principal material is limited to natural leather.
Requirements B4-size (364mm X 257mm) color pattern design or completed product
*The rear design drawing must be added.
*Data created in Illustrator that is less than 10MB in volume is also acceptable.(Data should be saved in Illustrator 10 or less.)
*Title of the work, a detailed explanation of the materials, structure and dimensions of parts must be stated overleaf or in e-mail.
*The completed product could be applied in the initial audition. The cost of completed product will be paid on the applicant.
Application Deadline October 21, 2005 (due to be posted by that date)
How to apply Fill out an application form or e-mail stating your address, name and age.
Send a pattern design with the application form by post or email.
(An application form will be prepared through JLIA URL.)
The completed product will be sent to the committee office attached with a filled-out application form.
Qualification requirements Any company or individual, including professional and amateur
Awards Grand prize: One (certificate of commendation and 300,000 yen)
Category prize: One in each category and section, seven in total (certificate of commendation and 100,000 yen as a supplementary prize)
In the categories of shoes and bags each of men's and women's will be awarded in the contest.
Evaluation Criteria The major criterion is merchantability in the market. The points of fashion, function, industrial design and price setting are also evaluated in the view of expeted sales.

- Muga Miyahara (Photographer)
- A few other judges will be expected to participate.
Judgment Process and Schedule First audition :
Judgment based on a pattern design or a completed product (End of October 2005)
Second audition :
The winning designers or manufacturers will produce prototypes based on the qualified designs that passed the first round of screening. The prototypes will then be examined. (Late December 2005)
Announcement of the Awards :
The final results will be publicized in the magazine BRUTUS, the edition of March 14, 2006.
Show and Awarding Ceremony :
The ceremony will be held in the middle of March 2006.

*The schedule is subject to change.
Remarks
  1. All copyrights and rights of duplication of all pattern designs or completed products shall belong to the Japan Leather and Leather Goods Industries Association (JLIA).
  2. A manufacturer under the umbrella of the joint association or the winning designer will be in charge of production of the awarded design drawing, using Japanese natural leather. (JLIA will pay a defined allowance for the production cost.)
  3. Expenses for consultations with manufacturers during the production process stated in (2) shall be paid by awardees.
    Such expenses shall not be shared by JLIA
